Should You Store Bath Towels in the Bathroom?

If you’ve traveled to luxurious hotels, you’ve probably seen beautiful towel arrangements, and most likely, you’ve tried to replicate the same in your bathroom in vain.

While it’s always a good idea to have extra towels on hand in the bathroom, we do not recommend storing bath towels in the bathroom.

Bathrooms often breed mold and mildew that is really difficult to get out of towels and other linen once they build up. In fact, they will likely give off an awful smell and can even make you ill.

Hence, we recommend permanently keeping fabrics such as towels and robes away from the bathroom.

What you can do is bring a fresh batch of towels to your clean, dry bathroom every morning, display them nicely, and take them out for drying after a shower.

However, if you invest in properly recessed bathroom shelves that are closed, you can have the luxury of storing your towels in the bathroom.

Should You Hang Wet Towels In The Bathroom After Showering?

In the bathroom, wet towels can be a nuisance. They can quickly give off a nasty, musty odor.

Furthermore, if your towel is not properly hanging, it will most likely still be wet the next time you need to dry off, which no one wants.

Thus, it is not wise to hang wet towels in the bathroom after showering. Instead, consider line-drying your wet towels, using your dryer, or an airdresser like the SAMSUNG airdresser that deodorizes, sanitizes, and eliminates odor from fabric.

Also, you can run a bathroom exhaust fan as much as possible to help air out any damp towels after your shower or bath. Remember, never leave damp towels on the floor. You can put them in a basket and take them out for line-drying or washing if it’s due.

They should also be hung and allowed to dry between uses to prevent germs and bacteria from building up in your towel.

However, if you’re sickly, consider washing your towels more frequently to avoid reinfection. Also, launder more than weekly if the humidity in your house is high — particularly during summer months if you don’t have air conditioning.

From large, open master baths to minimalist powder rooms, a towel bar, towel rod or towel rack is an easy way to bring a refreshed modern look to your bathroom.

Mount a towel bar on a wall in close proximity to the sink and faucet to display fresh, clean hand towels ready for your guests as they use the bathroom.

For your bath towel, mount the bar on a wall near your shower for easy reach when you step out after your shower and onto your bath mat.

An over-the-cabinet door towel rack can also create an instant towel rack in your bathroom.

Just hang it over any low-level cabinet or vanity door. It is an essential item that gives easy access to hand towels.

A freestanding towel rack is another fantastic option with the ability to move the rack wherever you want so you can position it closer to the shower or the bathtub depending on your preference.

    2. Or Fold them over an Open Sink/ Washstand

    3. Dry Wet Towels on a Towel Rail

Most towel rails are heated and hence also known as towel warmers. They are one of the most convenient locations to hang your towels, especially if you cannot line-dry them.

The most important job of a heated towel rail is to dry your towels. Usually, a towel is used, and afterward, hang it on the towel warmer that will dry it out.

This helps to prevent them from giving off that musty/moldy smell they can produce when not dried properly.

It also reduces laundry loads and water consumption, as the towels won’t need to be washed as frequently.

They are a luxurious way to treat yourself or guests after a shower or bath, thanks to their extra benefit of enveloping you in a comforting touch of warmth when you step out of the shower.

    4. Fold over a Wine Bottle Rack

Showcase your clean selection of hand and bath towels instead of stashing them in a bathroom cabinet by neatly folding them into rolls and placing them on a wine bottle rack to also spruce up your wall decor.

A good place would be above your bathroom vanity for hand towels and next to the shower, tub, or behind the door for bath towels.

    5. Hang on a Towel Hook

While most people use towel hooks to dry their towels, we do not recommend that since hooks only allow the towel to drape in the area where it is hooked, and this could leave more damp spots that dry more slowly.

Instead, consider draping your towel over your shower bar to dry, then transfer it to the hook for a nice display.

Like many, place a towel hook just outside the shower for easy reach.

Another popular place for your hook is behind the door which provides the perfect height and amount of space for hanging even robes without fear of them touching the floor.

Also, consider hanging one towel per hook to allow room for aeration.

Also, remember to check for the depth of the hook so it can accommodate thicker towels, and mount them high above the floor so they don’t drag down. This one on Amazon is a good one.

    6. Place Hand Towels on a Towel Ring

A towel ring adds style to the bathroom by transforming wasted wall space into a valuable area whilst providing a place to store hand towels and fingertip towels effectively.

Perfect when mounted near the sink, dry your hands properly, without dripping all over the bathroom.

    7. Store them in a Large Basket

A large wicker, jute, or woven basket is a stylish way to hold bathroom towels.

Roll and store your towels neatly then bring the basket close to your tub as you soak in.

You can also creatively install small basket shelves above the vanity to store hand towels or use structured baskets to hold a stack of towels underneath the vanity countertop.

To maximize the functionality of this simple towel display, add another matching basket to collect used towels and easily transfer them to the laundry room.

    8. Hang them on a Bath Ladder

Step up the style of your bathroom space with a bath ladder that will help you keep towels on hand in the bathroom. It’s sure to fit easily in narrow nooks and unused corners.

    9. Stack Towels In Open Shelves

An easy yet sophisticated way to display towels in that bathroom is to stack them on low-level open shelves underneath the vanity or on high-level open shelves on the walls.

If you have varying towel sizes, start with the largest and work your way up to the smallest to form a pyramid.

Stack three or four towels at a time to avoid overcrowding the shelves.

Add Zen vibes to your bathroom by sparing a wooden bath stool to act as a towel holder. It adds charm and effortless storage to your space.

Simply fold towels neatly on top of the seat so the bathroom looks tidy.

Remember to stack no more than two or three towels at a time to keep the pile from falling over.

    12. A Bowl of Towels

A spa-inspired way to hold towels is to roll them neatly on a wooden bowl that you can either place on the floor or on a stool near your bathtub.

Distressed wooden bowls especially add some rustic charm to any bathroom space.

    13. Store Towels in Hidden Cabinets

Your bathroom can become one of the most cluttered places in your home if you let it but don’t worry, hidden storage can really help!

Fold your towels neatly and put them in vanity cabinets for a clean-looking bathroom.

    14. Put on the Toilet Seat

This is an easy way to display your towels but it’s only needed during your shower time.

Just bring in your clean towels and put them on the toilet seat for easy access after a shower.

    15. Drape Over the Bathtub

Who said that you need hooks and bars to put your towels before a bath?

You can hang your towel in a basic fold over the bathtub to save on bathroom space.

However, by the time you’re showering, be keen to ensure your towel does not soak in the bathwater.

    Decor Tip…

Consider adding style and functionality to your guest bathroom by bringing in fingertip towels.

These small-sized towels (smaller than a hand towel, yet larger than a washcloth) provide an easy way to dry hands and ‘fingertips’ quickly.

They are functional, yet can be decorative or both. To display them nicely:

    • Lay them on the countertop next to the sink.
    • Drape them over coordinating hand or bath towels.
    • Place a basket of fingertip towels near your sink so that guests can dry their hands with a fresh towel after each wash. Rolling them into a circular shape or folding them neatly into more intricate shapes for added decoration are all options.
